Lithuanian Border Guard students in internship in Kainuu The Lithuanian Erasmus+ students had the opportunity to try skiing during their internship in Kainuu. A group of five Lithuanian Bor-der Guard students completed an internship period in Kainuu during 15–27 January 2017 within the framework of an Erasmus+ project.    Under the Erasmus+ project en-titled “Development of Border Guard school students’ competences related to interdiction of illegal migration”, the students of the Border Guard School in the Republic of Lithuania were given the opportunity to take part in on-the-job training at the Finnish Border Guard 45 RAJAMME VARTIJAT (FBG). They were placed in the Kainuu Border Guard District in Eastern Fin-land.    The Border Guard students from Lithuania were introduced to the opera-tions of the relevant FBG units in ensur-ing the protection and legal regime of the external borders of the Schengen Area. They also got acquainted with the migration process and responsible units in Finland, as well as the techni-cal equipment used by the FBG units. The internship enabled them to develop both their foreign language skills and professional skills.    During their stay in Kainuu, the students visited the wilderness of Hossa, where a new National Park will be open-ing in June 2017 as part of Finland’s cen-tenary celebrations. They also visited the historical Raate Road, the site of the decisive battle in January 1940, and learned about the Finnish Winter War as part of World War II. TEXT AND PHOTO: Timo Laaksoviitta
