The current technology of the Finnish Border Guard Technical surveillance systems on land and sea borders • fixed and portable sensors on land and sea • surveillance cameras that allow the determination of what caused the alarm • data transfer system for transferring the alarm information and video • camera image storage system allow-ing the examination and viewing of the records at a later date, if neces-sary • a user interface, or an application allowing the management of alarm lines, sensors, cameras and alarms, and the implementation of field command on land, sea, vehicles, vessels and in Command Centres (including a Maritime SAR applica-tion used in planning and leading maritime SAR missions). Airborne surveillance equipment • high-performance surveillance cameras and modern radars 48 RAJAMME VARTIJAT Border control technology • automated border control gates • fixed and wireless fingerprint readers • travel document reading devices • devices for document inspection, e.g. for identifying counterfeit pass-ports • registers of several different authorities from which information is obtained • user interface, or an application the border guard uses to perform register queries and information entry into the system Crime prevention technology • alcometers • radar speed guns • equipment and applications intend-ed for the investigation of devices confiscated during criminal investi-gation • other applications and information systems, and registers jointly used with the other pre-trial investigation authorities to investigate crimes Military defence • The Command, Control and Com-munication systems of the Finnish Defence Forces Administration and support function information systems • Hundreds of different applica-tions and systems are used in HR, materiel, document, property and information management, and in the preparation and presentation of various proposals. • Video conference systems are an everyday tool within the FBG and with its different partners. Telecommunications and basic information technology • In addition to mobile phones, VIRVE radios, satellite phones, sea VHF radios, etc. are used • TUVE (Security Net) workstations in offices and laptops in briefcases or vehicles (including vessels at sea and aircraft in the air) enable secure remote connections and therefore mobile work in Finland and abroad. • The multichannel routers on the vehicles, vessels and aircraft utilise the best available telecommunications link available in the current location.
